About me

Hi! I'm Marissa. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2022. At the start of my undergraduate degree, I took a career assessment with my learning advisor. The top results included teaching and nursing, followed by speech therapy, occupational therapy, and other helping professions. I took a deeper dive into speech and registered for an "intro to communicative sciences" class where I quickly fell in love. I wanted to help people across all stages of life find their voice, overcome challenges, and connect with the world around them. I have worked in private practice and post-acute rehabilitation facilities.I have participated in informal, 1:1 AAC trainings with Talk to Me Technologies to increase my knowledge in introducing and modeling the use of speech generating devices. Additionally, I spent two years working with two great SLPs/mentors who were working towards their qualifications for Orofacial Myology. I was afforded to opportunity to observe and engage in skilled therapy sessions addressing exercises particularly aimed at preparing or supporting clients needing tethered oral tissue releases. I would describe my clinical style as holistic, client-centered, individualized/personalized, strengths-based, and rooted in client empowerment to create self-advocates.

Other interests

Outside of speech-language pathology, I enjoy exploring with my husband and two dogs. We recently moved near the Hudson River in New York and have enjoyed discovering restaurants and good views near the water. In my free time I enjoy unwinding from the long days by reading lighthearted Hallmark-like novels. I am an avid thrifter and love finding items to give a new life or purpose to in my home.
