Kai Pretto

Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (M.A., CCC-SLP)

Accepts 12 insurance plans

Hi, I’m Kai! I became a speech-language pathologist because I’m passionate about helping neurodivergent individuals access affirming, meaningful support that honors who they are. My experiences working in schools, along with growing up in a rural, low-income community, shaped my commitment to making high-quality speech therapy more accessible and inclusive for all families.

I’ve worked across public schools, outpatient rehabilitation, hospital ICU settings, and private practice, supporting individuals with a wide range of communication needs. I’m especially passionate about working with neurodivergent communicators of all ages, including AAC users and individuals with Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) and echolalia-based communication styles.

I completed a field-specific certification in Bilingualism & Multiculturalism through the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities and a mentorship in Gender-Affirming Voice with voice SLP Wynde Vastine. I’ve also presented on AAC and GLP within school settings and will be presenting on echolalia with the Association for Autism & Neurodiversity.

My therapy approach is neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, and highly individualized. I incorporate sensory-informed practices, prioritize client empowerment and self-advocacy, and believe communication should always be supported in ways that respect each person’s unique identity, preferences, and goals.

Other interests

Outside of being a speech therapist, I enjoy snuggling my three cats, birdwatching, doing puzzles, and going for hikes in the woods near my home. I have an extensive collection of minerals & fossils, which I am pleased to talk about at length with anyone interested. I am an avid reader, with science fiction being one of my favorite genres. I am also part of a weekly, local creative writing group. I like to stay busy!

Kai is great with my son. The ability to keep a 5 year old busybody engaged for the entire session was simply amazing to watch.
