About me

Hi! I’m Janice. My first introduction to speech therapy came when my grandmother had a stroke and began working with a speech therapist. Watching her progress and regain her ability to communicate opened my eyes to the power of this field. At the time, I was finishing my associate’s degree and exploring what to do next. I applied to both UNT and UTD, and after being accepted to both, I chose to attend UNT—where I took my first speech pathology classes and immediately fell in love with the field. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with children and adults, helping them find their voices and build confidence in their communication. My greatest joy comes from seeing clients make progress, whether it’s a child saying their first word or an adult regaining skills after an injury. I’m passionate about communication and advocacy, and I believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to express themselves fully and be understood. I am VitalStim® certified for pediatric populations and have completed specialized trainings, including the Beckman Oral Motor course and a LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning) training. I hold a minor in Childhood Intervention and have taught a Pre-K Language and Literacy class, which strengthened my skills in early language development and classroom collaboration. I am also pursuing my Ph.D. in Special Education with a concentration in Developmental Disabilities and Autism, further deepening my knowledge and commitment to supporting individuals with diverse communication needs. My clinical experience spans a variety of settings, including schools, home health, private practice, and outpatient centers. I approach therapy with a holistic, client-centered, functional, and highly individualized style. I prioritize family involvement, strengths-based strategies, and client empowerment to help each person build confidence, independence, and lifelong self-advocacy skills.
